Last May Delta posted a huge AE (advance entitlement- Deltaspeak for periodic bids posted where pilots change equipment/bases/upgrade/downgrade). It was unusual in how large it was as well as how long some of the training that resulted from it took to perform. I think some of the training awarded from nearly a year ago is still taking place. Most AE’s occur every couple of months and are much smaller. Big AE’s taking place less frequently are generally not a good deal for the pilots as most training events require a two year seat lock. If the AE timing works out particularly poorly for you your two year seat lock might stretch to 3 years or beyond, and that’s assuming there was space in the category you desired in the first place.
