Yikes- that won’t work. Commuting to other bases for day trips sounds brutal. I’ll just hold off for now and wait it out. To get some historical context, when hiring was going on like gang busters, was iaw easier to hold? Also is it impossible to bunch days off to form a vacation without using actual vacation?

IWA has varied in the last few years, but it has never been easy to get to. The lowest was around 6 months to get here, with the longest being around two years. I don’t see it going less than a year anytime soon unless they decide to double the size of the base.
The ability to commute varies wildly here depending on the commute. I commuted for about a year from PHX to LAX. It wasn’t bad, but I am thankful now every morning when I wake up in my own bed that I don’t have to do it anymore. However, to commute from PHX to PGD long term would have been a miserable nightmare.
The answer to your vacation questions depends largely on your seniority and base. Some guys will say yes, but many will say only occasionally is that possible. As a junior guy in IWA, I find that I can typically string at least one Monday-Friday off a month without too much trouble. Getting a weekend off doesn’t happen too often at my seniority level.
