Bad news, if having someone silently sitting on the jumpseat is too big of a distraction to do your job then you aren’t ready to be a Captain.
Being a Captain is in essence an exercise in managing through operational distractions.
That being said, I have always been welcomed on the JS by DL Pilots as a FX pilot. Wasn’t really the case when I flew DCI, I would say it was about 80/20 back then.
