I haven't dug through the Southwest reports yet, but United has grown ASMs (Available Seat Miles) by a higher percentage than Delta over the last 5 quarters.
For 1Q2018, United's ASMs grew by 3.6% (3.3% mainline) vs Delta's 2.7%

So United IS growing faster than Delta. Many here have complained about United underperforming Delta; perhaps leaning out the operation a bit, as it appears to be what's happening, will result in better margins for United. Or perhaps Delta has a lot more pilot retirements than United - I haven't checked those numbers.
Edit: Southwest's 2017 ASMs grew by 3.6%. 1Q2018 numbers will be released on 26 April.
