Depends on the airline. It may be a closed shop (you must join the union), agency shop (If you don't join the union, you must pay an agency fee equal to the union dues), or open shop (you can decline union membership without paying any fees).

As a person who is considering the airlines as a career, are union memberships required? From reading the forums out seems like pilots talk more on union failures than union success.
I'm not here to argue for or against unions. I just want to know that I'm not related to join if I'm in a right to work state.
