Usually the need to repeat sessions for one reason or another. You’ll end systems with a nice, streamlined ftd/sim schedule (typically starting within 1-3 weeks) that will take 4 weeks to complete (on top of 4 weeks of ground school). Most people need to repeat one or so sims, which can be easily rescheduled, but if the sim breaks for a week or so, or a maneuvers validation is failed, all bets are off and you might be sent home for a month. Just depends on how things shake out.
You get a contractual 5 days off before IOE (to move/find a crash pad) and then IOE is typically about 1 1/2- 2 weeks or so, typically 2 trips... a 3 day and a 4 day or such.
All in all it should take About 3 1/2 months. I’d say about 1/4 take 4 months and about 1/10 take 5+ months. Of course all of this is through casual observation from when I went through class along wirh conversations with newer guys and looking at the seniority list and who’s flying.
