If you look at the 20,000 regional pilots, say half are CA, 10,000. Often repeated is 10% of the regional pilots are lifers, that brings it down to 8,000 CA that want to get on with the majors. A chunk of these are newly made CA (less than say 2 years in the left seat), thus not yet qualified to be hired. Not everyone wants to be hired with every airline. So, the 3,000 qualified resumes sounds about right.
