You could get that information because you were hiring these people in as Federal employees or contract sensitive positions within a Federal facility. The reverse would never happen where a Federal agency would release information covered under the privacy act to a private company in violation of one’s Constitutional right to privacy. How much money you were paid by an employer and who the employer was are covered under the privacy act. However, there are a number of ways the system gets back doored by the internet data providers. Workman’s comp claims, for example, are public record and they are but one of many ways your employer info gets circulated. Others include employer offered health plans, 401K administrators, etc. Nearly all of those company’s sell their (your) data as is apparent if you read their fine print when signing up. That data includes your employer. In this day and age it is literally impossible to not have your personal info out there for easy review unless you live in a cave and eat bugs. My only point was that it is a popular misconception that ones personal information is directly disclosed by US government agencies to inquiring private industry employers. That never happens.
