That's a very good point. I wouldn't want to ruin any passenger's confidence in the airline by causing a scene.
If the drunk CA refuses to call in sick you then have three choices...
1) Call the company
2) Call the cops
3) Call in sick yourself.
#3 might prevent him from flying for a few hours, but will do nothing about the long term issues. Also, if they find a reserve FO quickly, he might still get to fly drunk.
It would never go this far in the real world...nobody is that stupid.
