Wouldn't that be dictated by how many Jepps and pubs your company requires you to carry? I would say get the biggest thing you can fit. There is no such thing as too much space.
The biggest thing that will fit in the space for your flight kit in the CRJ is a 4 binder flight kit. Not to mention its a pain to get it in and out of there.
