No. You do not “lose your critical pay.” You get paid the GREATER of:

1) the credit for your Junior Man at 200%
2) the credit value of your day in lieu

You are pay protected for any flying that they have to pull before/after the day in lieu to split you back into the trip.

EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE A DAY IN LIEU WHENEVER IT IS AN OPTION

If you want to work on you day in lieu, then pick something up at 200% or volunteer for another junior man. Which will result in another day in lieu and 200% pay.
Take your JM day @ 200%. Add that to your monthly credit. Then when CS decides what day you want in lieu, subtract the value of that day from your new, updated credit.

If you are JM’ed for a min day, you’ll have 6 hrs credit for that day (3 hrs @ 200%). If you then get back a day worth 7 hrs, you just lost 1hr of pay. Unless you can pick up something on that day, your credit for the month will be less.

I would suggest only taking the day back if you can afford to lose the pay.
