Attrition is a hell of a thing.
It’s the tailpipe of an engine. Hiring is the intake.
Stagnation is a horrible thing in aviation and it’s during recruitment periods that the true health of the company is procured.
Sometimes, there are names on the attrition list that make others pause. Sometimes, the win is clear and there’s a collective sigh created... by a simple name.
I would add that while the linear thinker would conclude that one pilot leaving would require another to take his place to equal a zero sum game in staffing, sometimes just the fact that pilot is gone is something that made the company stronger and more functional.
Just by their absence.
