I read this as "we don't see it as a problem, but since enough of you are complaining we'll pretend outrage and call the company on this"!

This so called good working relationship with the company should be based on mutual trust and respect and a desire for both parties to prosper. When one side is reaping all the benefits and pulling an end run around the other side that is not a "good working relationship". I would call that "getting used", but what do I know?
