I think you are, which is similar to the Wisconsin D bag situation......If you walked up to a van and witnessed no active loading but another crew was already seated, they had been waiting for you at least a few minutes. This realization would be an encompassing level of smart.

Given the above level of smart, common curtesy would dictate that you would let them check in first (not self centered).
