Utilize the options available to you (basically in the following order): vacation, vacation swap with other pilots, monthly vacation bidding for trading blocks, bidding around the event, trip trade, drop requests, pilot to pilot trading, PVD, PO. A good idea would be to start a paper trail early on and include that you will attempt all the above to get the time off.
