I'm currently a 17 years in service Air Force 707 pilot that is hoping to get hired by Delta at 20 years when I exit the service. I'm currently residing in the Atlanta area, so Delta is a very appealing option for me since I would not have to move. I'm looking at getting a A320 rating with ATPflightschool. It would be covered under the GI Bill, so it's just a matter of taking some leave for me.
I know there are other factors like making sure there are no errors in the application process and being ready for the interview. With that being said, would an A320 rating at least be somewhat helpful in the hiring process?

Complete waste of money. If you're a regular guy with an internal recommendation you're extremely competitive, roughly half of DALs new hires are military and almost none have a type rating for a plane in DAL's fleet. And even if you did happen to already have a type it wouldn't matter, your initial training would be the same as the guy who didn't.
