Here is something I know by reading the prospectus. The only airline that can perform a hostile takeover of Mesa in the short term is American Airlines.
And, if United takes the 175’s back in-house, it will mean purchasing (or assuming the purchase of) a whole bunch of 175’s from Republic, SkyWest, including the 18 from Mesa, or buying new ones. The United pilot union is simply asking that the CPA’s are cancelled as they come up for renewal. Also, for the United pilot union proposal of outfitting the 175’s with more seats means paying Embraer a bunch of money to have the Ejets recertified.
