He didn't simply wander into the airplane, get in and go fly. That would not be possible. He planned for, and prepared for this event, and executed it (and ultimately himself).
We may be deeply grateful that he died a in a fireball on a remote island, rather than the pearl jam concert that was in play at the time, or any of the other venues and places filled with thousands of people.
