Exactly. Those folks had a WONDERFUL life in western Germany. Usually carrying a small box with a tube for an F-teen engine, two- or three-hopping around the continent. Oy!
After that tour, they would get back to the 'real' airlift Air Force, at a garden spot like Pope or Dyess. They always looked a little weepy from then on. 😥
The AF eventually gave the Sherpas to the Army NG. A sticker, on the wall of the Norfolk NAS Airlift Ops, from a PA NG Av Regiment said, "Give us a call, we'll come in our Shorts!"
