Double Ouch. It is ridiculous. There has to be a better way.
I worked with a local independent CFI (and the best by far of the 4 I have flown with). I pay $135 Solo and $180 duel.
Stay away from the larger schools and you can save a bunch, however there can be some downsides such as scheduling availability etc when going with an independent CFI.
