Sounds like both you and that Captain are still thinking lost decade and legacy bankruptcy contracts. According to the profile here on APC, AA's 757 12-year Captains are making $30/hour more than ours. Their 777 Captain rates are $36/hour higher.
Still a great job, but we gave up the top spot in pay a while ago and since most of our peers will already be on a follow-on contract by the time we sign our next, we ain't getting that back any time soon.
