When it comes to operational issues, pilots have a lot of expertise. When it comes to the business side of running an airline... not so much. Yes, from a pilot's perspective the 737-900 ER sucks (haven't flown the Max, but I expect more of the same). Our management obviously thinks it makes sense from a business perspective.
I agree. The Max is just a very efficient 900ER with bigger screens. I’ve only flown 2 legs in it, but that was my take. It’s still not a bad place to sit. Yes it isn’t the quietest cockpit, and yes, God forbid, you have to actually flip a switch to bring a generator online, but how difficult is that? The bean counters decided that the max would maximize our profits when considering our operation and the available options at whatever prices that they were able to negotiate. Delta and American each have different bases and cost structures. What works for them doesn’t necessarily mean that it is the best fit for us. If sitting in a 737 is that unbearable or demeaning the guppy haters can just bid around the thing. We have options.
