Just one opinion so take it for what it's worth, but it helped me get to FedEx:

Go to a regional that offers a reasonable upgrade and get as much 121 and jet PIC time as quickly as possible. Apply to work in the training department (ground, sim or Line Check), and fly a full schedule to build hours.

Regional pay has increased dramatically recently, as well as the sign on bonuses. Many regionals offer a flow through or guaranteed interview to a major incase purple doesn't work out. Keep your app updated and fingers crossed.
