Here were are almost two years later, when Amazon has almost fielded all 40 of its announced airplanes (with none announced or ordered beyond that initial number)...and as I mentioned upthread, Amazon volume on UPS is even higher than it was before "Operation Aerosmith" started.
Both FDX and UPS have continued to grow their operations as eCommerce well just Amazon is exploding.
Yeah Amazon ordered 20k Mercedes vans for their delivery service, using a contractor model that was...wait for it...pioneered by FedEx. Even with that, their domestic let alone global network is nowhere NEAR that of FedEx - either air or ground. To actually compete with the duopoly (remember DHL North America?), Amazon will have to spend tens of billions MORE to even sniff it.
It is unbelievably myopic to focus on their potential competitors while ignoring those to AA (or UAL or DAL) like flags of convenience, international ULCC, regional airline pilot shortages impacting hub feed, etc.
Time passes, and companies either evolve or die. FedEx has done just fine and there is absolutely zero reason to expect they won't continue to do so...
Two years.... hmmmm
What is the duration of a pilot career.. a bit more than two years.
