Default 777 slide #18

Another blown slide

Fatigue, disrupted habit patterns, mechanical failure in one case........ but mostly basic human error. One would think it's possible for a crew to focus for that few minutes and achieve perfection, but the results speak for themselves. It happens.

There is an easy solution to this. Let the ground personnel on the OUTSIDE of the aircraft open the door. It's no longer a money issue since they linked block-in with beacon off and not the door. So, why are we still doing the door dance? All the pax airlines operating 777s (and any other non-manual girt bar aircraft) figured this out decades ago and guess what?..... they don't blow slides.

Re-programming the in-message logic is saving an average of $3000-$4000 per day (right out of our pockets) in 777 crew pay across the fleet. Use some of those savings to train ground crew, re-print the manuals, put a couple of FCIFs out and call it good.

Or..... send a threatening email and probably come up with more layers of procedures to accomplish a simple task.
What's next? Have one or two people from the ground staff come in through the cockpit windows and help with the "doors" call and stand there watching while the two pilots involved work the doors.
