Not sure what "domestic problems" are in relation to aviation safety. I'm also pretty sure this was a highly "public" event wherever it occurred, especially if someone was injured.
The bottom line is that we, as an airline, are being stupid. After 18 inadvertent slide deployments on one aircraft type, I seriously doubt we're keeping that fact secret. There are proven, simple solutions to stop this trend. Perhaps shining a spotlight on our failures will help those who perpetuate the procedures contributing to them make a better choice.
