Yeah, we all pay union dues which is why it’s irrelevant. You’re not just paying the union to be your voice, you’re paying into the benefits it can provide.
That’s why volunteering is important. I’m not saying you need to volunteer to have a voice, but what I am saying is you should volunteer to gain perspective. Because it’s not as black and white as people on facebook or APC make it seem.
That being said, I’m speaking from prior experience. I’m not sure what the PDT union day-to-day consists of but I can assure you that through the three airlines I’ve worked at - it’s always the same.
I honestly believe the people in our Union are trying for the best, what makes our company ****ty is that the management isn’t willing to see our point of view.
I’ve tried volunteering at PDT ALPA for different stuff, you either get stifled or put on the back burner routinely. If you aren’t part of the “in crowd” you’ll be fed lots of bs and koolaid.
Pilots definitely need to get involved and really pressure the leadership in Mngmt and the Union to get their **** together.
