You can make it so that you can also put in a request for any X pairing. So if any trips with your criteria, including X pairings, fall into open time, you get a notification (text alert) and if you want it, you pick it up.
Also, you can negotiate restrictions on trip revisions. For example, you can negotiate a prohibition on revising a trip before show time, preventing it from turning into a HSBY.

My point is I don't prefer to ask for a pig in a poke. Want to see the pairing before I request it for something like OTP. (Have requested General M/U in the past to fill a hole in my schedule...but I've never been awarded a General Makeup trip)
Just me, but if we manage to negotiate a prohibition like that into the CBA the easy CRS solution is to just wait until show to revise it.
I know one of my YGBTSM revisions was when CRS cancelled a DH back about an hour prior to show. So I woke up to a Crew Notification and an extra 90 minutes of Pay, yay me. I mean what commuter wouldn't want to operate back to Memphis Saturday night w/ an 11 PM arrival.
