AA has access to every flow pilots file, flow candidates would be far superior to street hires because they know exactly what they are going to get. Flying a legacy airliner doesn't require 5k-10k hrs of flying experience, that is just to going rate that legacies seem to be comfortable with on the gamble of a street hire.

In the rest of the world pilots start out on 737's and 320's with less than 500 hours.
