There isn't anything specifically bad about DTW as it has matured. New bases typically run more junior plus there is Chicago next door that pulls in pilots for its better commuting options and generally more efficient flying. The flying legs are typically shorter as that is the nature of Delta flying out of DTW. Meaning a lot of cities around Detroit are only 1-1.5 hours of flying away. The flying is about 50/50 50 to 7/900 flying which most see as a benefit and a big change from when it was mostly 200 flying.
Even people who are already here flying slip in to correlating a junior base as "bad". In reality living in a junior base is amazing* (I think the NY market is an outlier due to cost and traffic.)
