And I've not ONCE been called out on a short call that wasn't a legal long call. Never.
Example. Tomorrow (26) is first day of a 7 day reserve block.
10am or so I check MiCrew seeing if anything is in open time I want to yellow slip.
Short call. Again. 1000-1900 on the 26th.
Get crap. Get to NYC.
I can long call at home but usually commute up first flight to NY on first day, and yellow slip when I get to NYC.
Now assigned a 3 day trip, signing in at 1805 on the 26th. No reason for me to come in tonight.
Last reserve block.
Get 1000-2200 SC posted in MiCrew day before. Get stuff, go to NYC.
Land in NYC. 5 day leaving late next day (LC legal trip with plenty of time to spare)
Do a 5 day. Get released for DRST after landing. After 30 hours, I have four hours of availability, going into Mil Leave.
They short call me 0900-1200 on my last day going into Mil Leave.
I got no problem standing short call. But sometimes it just seems like it's borderline retarded how they dole it out. 9 hour does seem like I have better chances of commuting now.
To follow this up.. I don't think Crew Scheduling knows how to work this.
Reserve coverage has been good this whole block..
They never took me off shortcall after assigning me a BRU trip. I was on shortcall starting at 1000-1805 with a 1805 sign in for the trip. I called and asked and was told I was being kept on shortcall until I signed in for the BRU trip. I told them that put me under an hour of timing out if we had any delays getting out of JFK on a Friday night.
I check in for my trip. Tell captain I'm a timeout risk. Sure as taxes, the flight plan addendum had my LATT about 43 minutes after our scheduled TO.
We brief, do the Translant Arts and Crafts. Go to the gate. NO PLANE. Captain calls Dispatch and tells them the FO is gonna time out if we are delayed. No shortcalls available. It's me or the flight cancels.
Plane shows up 30 minutes late. We push 25 minutes late. By the time we took off, I was 17 minutes from timing out.
Get back. Didn't get put in DRST like they usually do after a 3 day when I have 4 to go.
Had a blanket yellow slip in.
Get called about 10am this morning for AMS tonight. Accept it, and go back to bed. 3 hours later crew scheduling calls, I'm removed from the trip for a 30.168 violation. Trip goes to a FO junior to me.
They still don't put me in rest. I'm basically legal for a 1 day trip tomorrow vs a 3 day AMS therefore stuck at crashpad. If they had worked the shortcall/rest thing smarter, they'd have a shortcall available (the pilot who got my trip) and I'd be legal for a lot more things.
Not sure they know how they are working this yet.
