You’re not entirely wrong we do have a long list of airlines I’ve never heard of before that we can use. However if you’re actually trying to get somewhere out of the US it is harder not having one of the big 3. UAL has a nonstop to Japan from ORD but the family can’t take that so now I have to take Lufthansa to Germany then to Japan. We can agree to disagree but our benefits are subpar and I use them a lot.

I’ll concede on Japan if you can show that spirit is the only carrier without zeds on the legacies, but I believe you’re hoping for legacy zeds and most non-legacy carriers are in the same situation as us. I will suggest you consider a look at air Canada for getting to Japan though.
