The same can also be said about the military. Do you think a guy with zero hours should start flying in a high performance turbo prop? And then after a couple hundred hours go to a high performance jet? No. But guess what they train to do that and most of them all do fine.
Don't even begin to compare civilian training to the military. I know because I have been through both sides. Unless you go to a flight school that has you doing Stand up EP evaluations, sims, academics, and flying with 10-12 hour days 5 (sometimes 6) days a week over the course of a year, it's not in the ballpark. BTW, low time co-pilots in the AF need to be looked over at first also. The difference is the selection and training process weeds out most of the weak swimmers.
