Because of the failure rate of direct entry Captains they’ve changed the program. When you start training you are paid as a Captain but you train initially as an FO and take an SIC check ride. You then go on full time status and do 3 rotations as an FO with an IP. After that you do what an FO who upgrades normally does. That is a week of upgrade ground training followed by 2 rotations in the left seat with an IP in the right. After that you go to Dallas for the simulator training and the check ride. Once the check ride is passed and you finish Captain IOE you no longer fly with IPs but you remain on full time status until you get 100 hours as Captain then a DEC will revert to part time. So including all the training you will be on full time status for about 6 months but you will be paid as a Captain the entire time.
