Always hiring direct entry captains. the question is can the make it through training. Pass rate isn't exactly what I would call stellar. Being generous, maybe 1 in 6 IF that. More likely 1 in 8 or 9. The flying is the easy part. It's the company stuff that gets people. The FMS is foreign and currently the way it is taught isn't exactly easy to pick up. The 2M 'Sim" they have is more for procedures not exactly FMS related things. It's just a different operation. Most of the post airline guys crash and burn. It is what it is.
Sounds like a real weak training department. Perhaps changes are needed in the recruitment department also as pass rate like that is just a waste of money.
