It's way more complicated than that. The issue was at the time scope was relaxed, ALPA merger policy was DOH. The regionals, i.e Comair were stand alone companies. The mainline pilots were faced with a choice, give up scope for code share limitations, or hand over your seat to Comair pilots, etc. The 76 seaters on the other hand, were a bankruptcy scam job.



The notion that these companies didn't have scope contracts prior is nonsense. Management is not legally permitted to interfere with organizing, thus all flying in a union contract must be listed as permitted flying. Except in the case of Alaska, who for some reason has a reverse scope contract.
