I suspect that if the FAA and SWA have issues with Etops it’s going to be about time. ETOPS takes time because a certified mechanic has to run a ETOPS check and sign off the log book. Some individual required checks can be time consuming. I have no doubt SWA is trying to compress that because they don’t want 90 minute turns.
SWA has addressed this by planning to operate all westbound crossings as originators. I’m guessing they won’t have a choice but take the long turn on the return eastbound unless they plan to have an airplane sitting idle until late in the morning.
