Property taxes in Texas are killer. A recent captain I flew with who commutes from Texas asked me how brutal California taxes were. Turns out that I paid less in CA State Income Tax than he paid in Texas Property Tax. I told him he should move to CA to save on taxes.
That’s not good info for property taxes. It all depends on the size of your house, county you are In, school district and whether or not in a MUD district. Saying someone should move to California because they’ll pay less in “taxes” is awful advice. Certain areas of the Houston area can be brutal for property taxes for sure. Other places are super reasonable. Everything else is way more expensive in California.
