You're right. It's far more likely that a brake/hydraulic failure, spoiler issue or some other stopping related malfunction just
happened to occur at the same time a decision to land under those conditions was made.
It couldn't possibly be exactly what it looks like. I'm a proponent of Occam's Razor, but time will tell.
