We actually would have hit "peak oil" some years ago... based on historical oil prices and extraction technology.

Technology advances, and price increases to pay for them, have put off peak oil for the foreseeable future. I suspect we'll migrate to renewable, greener, energy before we no kidding run out. Aircraft may be among the last consumers of bulk oil products, and by that time it could be 50% or more bio fuel.
