No, once you are off IOE you can "request" a 7/7, but may be denied and kept on the Tng72. This does a couple things, mainly keeps you working more so the need for pilots is less. Once the next period bid is open you can bid a 7/7 and the odds of actually getting one are almost 100% in your favor.
Months and months is relative as on some fleets IOE is backed up months and months, guys sitting at home for 8 weeks awaiting first trips, SWA is steeling our check airman as fast as they can! We were told they have been handing out 7/7 after IOE on most fleets to as one way to try and stem attrition for first and second year guys???
