Flew with a guy that, up until a few years ago, spent his entire Delta career on the 747. Hired onto the panel of the classic, then went right seat to left seat of the whale. He mentioned he had to fight hard to not be forced into an upgrade to the NB some years ago, but he had not intention of flying domestic. He didn't have the attitude you speak of, but he did say AQP training on the 330 was a shock to the system.
