Thinking back, and it was over 20 years ago, one prevalent thought I still have is that a high percentage of guys who scabbed had some prior "trouble/difficulties" or were generally considered "weak sisters".

There were guys who scabbed that totally surprised me and then guys who I thought would scab and turned out to be some of the stronger supporters.

One very common excuse was that Ferris (UAL CEO) was going to win and they wanted to be on the "winning" side.

Another excuse was the "super-seniority" that the company was promising to the scabs.

I might add, just for your perspective, that I worked on an MEC Committee with a scab - there's a long story behind that one - years after the strike. We got along quite well.

I also got to see some "inside" stuff as I was a member of our MEC during that time.
