It’s normal at the airline I work for. I started as a cruise relief pilot on the A330. A year later I was cross qualified on the A340. 2 years later I got upgraded to fly as an FO on both the A320 and A321. Got upgraded to fly the A330 after a year (usually takes 3 years where I work, but the company bought a lot of new planes and at least 100 pilots senior to me didn’t have their ATPL & I got upgraded sooner). 6 months later I took a CTR course on the A350.
I had to sign a contract for ea training, 5 5-year contracts.
Not sure if it counts for much here. I don’t get to tick Type Rating on the online applications. I paid for my FAA conversion and didn’t want to spend extra $10,000 just to put a type rating on my FAA ATP.
