But this also begs the question: why don’t the majors just generally hire 53-year-olds? Seems like Delta doesn’t mind young guys, and it seems like most mainline new hires are in their 30’s and 40’s.
Most if not all major airlines use a feedback system for hiring. They note how new hires perform in the training programs and first year. They adjust their target hiring parameters based on that. If a segment demonstrates poor average performance it’s going to handicap individuals from the background. Doesn’t mean they won’t get hired but they will need a stronger resume.
