Same thing I've heard.
And for the post telling us to stop complaining and start volunteering, that's not always a good idea. I've known many coworkers who did the same thing and came away a lot more jaded than they were before they 'stopped complaining and started volunteering.' Sometimes seeing the sausage being made isn't the best remedy if you're naive enough to think you'll make a difference. Not to say your heart isn't in the right place - I'm sure it is - but the deck is usually stacked against anyone who thinks they can 'fix' the mess our predecessors have made.
My opinion here, but most (if not all) of this comes from the top. We work for a CEO who has turned screwing pilots into a sport. The MEC loves to talk tough, but everyone knows JO owns them on issues that really matter. JO might think he's winning, but when you need 20 new captains and only 2 show up, maybe it's a case of winning the battle, but losing the war. His 'screw the pilots' attitude will eventually come back to bite him. In fact, we might be seeing this now.
One can only hope.
