35 years ago I was a young buck working at a charter firm based in DC. There was a whole slew of alumni from that outfit who had matriculated to the commuters and then again on to American, Piedmont, TWA, UAL etc. All of them hired at majors while in their early 30's.
All of them were pep-rally eager beavers and were upset about the dyspeptic demeanor of the old Captains they were now flying with..." they should just quit!" etc etc etc.
Fast forward 30+ years. All of those guys are now today's old Captains. While I have lost touch with most of them, I'd bet 20 bucks that most of them grab their stuff and go after the beacon is turned off.
