I was flying yesterday... Going east.. On the way out of lax.. It was continuous light with occl moderate which is whatever.. But then it would be really smooth followed by nasty moderate. 30 min into the flight the FAs were like... Hey it's pretty smooth.. Still want us in our seats? I said.. Yeah... But... I don't know... We're still in the weather maybe we should wait */Jolt Jolt/* --more moderate. It was like that all the way to ABQ at all altitudes. We ended up in the very low 20s to get some relief.
On the way back.. The mountain wave turbulence was nasty and widespread .. Continuous light w/occl moderate lasted for no joke like 1:45min even at the "best ride" altitude. Once that was over we had some smooth air for maybe 45 min then we got to LA and it picked up again with light to moderate.
We minimized it by flying at crazy low altitudes. ATC said their best ride was below FL200. In the 30s the jet stream was shearing and the clouds had all kind crazy shapes when you could see it. Not saying I was where the crew was and know what it was like where they were.. But with the wind strength and shearing that was everywhere yesterday I'm not surprised it produced some dangerous spots of severe.. And I absolutely believe it could have been smooth with sudden severe.
Some of you will say *cool story bro* and you know what? It is a cool story... Bro
