Many companies have a market cap above their book value because they are great profit generators. When book value is well above market value bad things can happen. Takeovers and parting out the business is one. Overstated assets is another that could lead to malfeasance. Or just drastically undervalued because the market applies an airline discount as a result of the historical loss on invested capital the industry has delivered.
