Beyond ludicrous. If the USG wanted to cover something up, causing a very public shut down of a major US flag carrier (years after the fact) would be the last way they would go about that. People are more likely to keep quiet if they're getting paid and have something to lose...
The USG doesn't care enough about what any banana republic thinks to do something like this.
Might there have been political wrangling over jurisdiction of the investigation? Maybe, but that wouldn't have much to do with EAL and shutting them down wouldn't fix it.
Maybe this guy Jehn wants to deflect whatever blame rests on his shoulders?
